Kanji Flip App Reviews

The best

This software has really improved. Its now the best way to learn JLPT kanji on the iPhone. Fast, stable and a good learning algorithm - maybe TOO good; you need to get each kanji correct quite a few times before it asks you less. That said, if youre willing to invest some serious time into it, youll make some serious progress.

on yomi example pls!

this application is great but will be much better if example on each kun and on reading is included! for easy memorization of each kanjis reading!

Fanatastic way to learn Kanji

I love this app! Well worth the money. The real secret here is the algorthms used. If I miss a Kanji several times, it appears again and again until I memorize it. And if I miss many characters in a row, it throws up some real easy Kanji to rebuild my confidence. Gotta like that. My only feature request is this. I often look up other words or similar Kanji using online dictionary on my iPhone. As a result I often bounce back and forth between KanjiFlip and JDict. So it would would be great if it could remember your last location (Kanji) if you return to KanjiFlip on the same day. Or even launch JDict with the current Kanji displayed in KanjiFlip.

Love it!

Bought this app after buying Japanese flip and I was not dissapointed. Great algorithms to keep the pace moving without the user having too plan much for himself.

Absolutely outstanding

This app gave a boost to my kanji learning process. What a great app! Thank you for developing it.

Missing Something?

Unless Im missing something, it doesnt seem like Kanji Flip or Japanese Flip programs actually provide any type of quizzing. Basically, every answer you uncover by hitting Show Answer provides you with the correct answer all the time. It is up to you to make sure it is right or not. I was dissapointed, because I would like the application to keep track of my progress by actually testing me. Provide some multiple choices, or simply just the wrong answer and if the user chooses incorrectly (Because they actually dont remember correctly), then the application will let the user know and keep the word that was missed in rotation (randomly) until the user shows enough ability that the word is actually memorized. Right now its all on the honor system, which it doesnt really challenge the user to really remember. There needs to be an actual quiz function

Good but not enough

Would highly benefit from : 1) stroke orders 2) radicals 3) more examples

Progress lost at update...

What good is saving my progress if it erases with an update...now I cant even manually input what kanji I have studied. This makes the application useless. Please make it so we can choose our own study patterns...

Total waste of time!!! BEWARE!

The last update deleted all my data from the last half year! Obviously these guys submit their updates without any testing, otherwise such an annoying mistake would not have been unnoticed and they would at least have put a warning on the download site... I want the time back, that I wasted on this App... Previous review: I like the idea of having Kanji Flashcards on my ipod but although the GUI is nice, the contents of this App is disappointing. Some Kanji do not have readings at all, sometimes on and kun readings are switched or endings are missing. These mistakes do not come from the original KANJIDIC which was used to create the App. I checked that before writing this review. Moreover, the higher levels contain all the lower level Kanji and they cannot be skipped or removed. This Is extremely annoying if you are practicing for JLPT1. I definitely do not recommend the software in its current state to practise for the JLPT. Maybe this will change with future updates.

A

Frickin awesome for an intermediate like me. Highly addictive and much cheaper and easier than a box of flashcards!!!

Good overall...

Removing the (very small number of) errors in the explanations would result in a five from me. (studying for JLPT1)

Love it

Help a lot for study and memorize. I really recommend

Nice and Fun

This is a much more fun and smart way for me to learn Kanjis compared with the usage of paper flash cards. I also downloaded Japanese Flip and thats also very helpful. I asked Andre Khromovs site for help with some troubleshooting and got very responsible answers too.

Great for training on the road

This application is brilliant for practicing Kanji on the go. Kun and On-Reading included, plus relevant examples for kanji combinations. Two things I would like to see in the next version: 1. More examples for Kanji combinations, instead of only two, and ideally with sentences examples. 2. Possibility to build up your own set of Kanji to learn, out of the total set (instead of having to choose a preset level). That would help me going along with the actual level that I am studying, instead of having a huge jump from one level to the next.

Looks nice but lacks substance

Definitely not worth the price. Poor choice of example vocabulary and no example sentences.

Very Good app but...

...no updates since years.(not compatible with iphone5 larger screen so youve gotta get a smaller size app) Very well made app but forgoten unfortunately! i cant get it!

Simple, excellent

Simple structure but excellent programming makes it probably the most useful and best of the numerous kanji learning apps available. Only improvement would be to drop the names part of the Kanji in JLPT 1 or rather use the Joyo Kanji complete set.

Wonderful!

I love the fact that you added the common uses feature! Im not sure how you are going to improve this app with a new update, but I bet you will.

Must have

A great application for those who are first learning Kanji. Friendly interface as well. The developers seem to also care about adding updates to it, so it keeps getting better and better.

Kanji Flip is Flipping Awesome!

Your Kanji Flip program has really kickstarted my studying for the 3kyuu JLPT this year, and has been the most effective study tool that Ive used for studying Japanese thus far, and I live in Japan!. The progression system is really great and actually works with the way that I personally learn! If I end up passing the JLPT this year, Im totally blaming you for it =)
